Organised by ICTP’s Scientific Fabrication Lab, the two-day celebration of ingenuity and creativity runs from 9 to 10 May
ICTP at the 2026 Trieste Maker Faire

All over the world, Maker Faires are occasions for science enthusiasts, inventors and makers of all ages to come together and share their creations with the general public. The Trieste Maker Faire, launched by the ICTP Scientific Fabrication Laboratory (SciFabLab) 13 years ago, will also be an occasion to bring the Centre’s celebrations of Abdus Salam’s centennial to the Trieste public.

The festival will take place on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 May in Trieste’s main square, Piazza Unità d’Italia. With the ICTP SciFabLab as a main promoter, the Trieste Maker Faire is co-organised with the municipality, with the support of ICTP, the Comune di Trieste and the Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia.

The whole ICTP SciFabLab will move to downtown Trieste during the event, joined by a cohort of ICTP researchers, led by the Mathematics section, who will take part in the celebrations and entertain passersby with puzzles and games throughout the weekend. This Maker Faire will also be the occasion to mark the centennial of ICTP founder Abdus Salam and celebrate his vision. A special session on the life and scientific achievements of Abdus Salam, curated by the ICTP Library, will take place in the afternoon of Saturday 9 May.
