ICTP-EAIFR is Hiring

ICTP’s new partner institute in Rwanda, the East African Institute for Fundamental Research (EAIFR), has announced a vacancy for a qualified senior lecturer, associate professor, or professor in solid-earth physics.

ICTP-EAIFR brings the quality of ICTP’s research facilities to a location closer to African scientists. It offers Master’s of Science degrees in three disciplines: Condensed Matter Physics, Physics of the Solid-Earth, and High Energy, Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics.

Not only will the incumbent conduct research in one of Africa’s top physics institutes, but they will also contribute to the growth and outreach initiatives of ICTP-EAIFR. They will teach two master’s courses annually, help organise workshops, and mentor Ph.D. and master’s students while fulfilling ICTP’s mission to bring high quality physics education programmes to the developing world.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in geophysics or a related field, have four years of professional experience, and experience lecturing and organising training activities. Successful candidates will have the status of ICTP Associate for six years and may visit the ICTP (Trieste) research group three times for a period of one month. The post is for three years, and is renewable upon mutual agreement.

Candidates should apply online at https://users.ictp.it/general/application_EAIFR_2019.html. They also should send a copy of their curriculum vitae including a list of publications, a summary of research accomplishments, a statement of research interests and research plan and at least three letters of recommendation sent directly by referees to the ICTP Personnel Office at personnel_office@ictp.it. The application deadline is 15 June, 2019.

Inaugurated in October 2018, ICTP-EAIFR was established to address Africa’s need for
better physics education, training, and advanced research. Located at the University of Rwanda in Kigali, EAIFR is recognised as a UNESCO Category 2 Institute. It is rapidly becoming an international hub of visiting professors, lecturers, and students, fostering collaboration between experts in high energy, condensed matter and earth physics. More details are available on its website: https://eaifr.ictp.it/.
