Condensed Matter & Statistical Physics Postdoctoral Position - Physics and Simulation of Surfaces, Interfaces, and Nanomechanical/Nanochemical Systems

MPSD logo

ICTP invites applications for a one-year senior postdoctoral position (non-renewable) within the research project “Physics and Simulation of Surfaces, Interfaces, and Nanomechanical/Nanochemical Systems.”

This is a joint research project between ICTP and The Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter, and is coordinated by ICTP’s Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics Section.

The postdoctoral researcher’s activity will  be part of a targeted international project developing atomistic simulations , theory, calculations, and collaboration with experimentalists. The research themes will cover static and dynamic nanomechanical properties of moire’ multilayers; metal surface structural evolution during  catalytic processes such as  graphene growth;  and other equilibrium and non-equilibrium atomistic phenomena of similar kind that will arise.

Who can apply

Scientists of any nationality and gender with a PhD ranging from condensed matter physics, physical chemistry or  engineering,  and with a subsequent  strong  and pertinent research record.  Proven experience is required in non-equilibrium atomistic molecular dynamics simulations and related techniques,  with recognised  expertise and  applications in nanotribology and nanostructural evolution with and without external  agents and forces.

Entitlements

The net monthly salary will be 2,700 EUR. Benefits include a private health insurance, a pension contribution, and travel funds.
