ICTP's Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics (CMSP) section invites applications for a one-year Senior Postdoctoral Fellowship to work with Ali Hassanali on the ERC project Hydrogen Bond Networks as Optical Probes.
The successful candidate will investigate electronic excited-state dynamics in bulk and interfacial aqueous systems, with particular emphasis on the relationship between hydrogen-bond networks and optical response. The research will combine theoretical and computational methods with data-science and machine-learning approaches.
Candidates of any nationality may apply; women and scientists from developing countries are particularly encouraged to apply.
Applicants should hold a PhD in physical chemistry, chemical physics, condensed matter physics, computational chemistry, or a related field. Candidates should have:
- Previous postdoctoral research experience and a strong publication record.
- Expertise in electronic excited-state dynamics.
- Experience with data science and machine learning.
- A strong theoretical background in physical chemistry.
Experience with aqueous systems, interfaces, molecular simulation, electronic-structure methods, or spectroscopy is desirable.
The appointment will be based at ICTP in Trieste, Italy, for one year, starting on 1 November 2026. ICTP offers internationally competitive remuneration and benefits.
Applicants should submit a CV, publication list, brief research statement, and arrange for three letters of recommendation through the ICTP online application system: https://e-applications.ictp.it/applicant/login/4405
