ICTP has launched a pilot childcare grant initiative to enable visiting researchers with young children to attend scientific conferences, schools and meetings, or other scientific activities organized by ICTP on its campus. The pilot initiative will run until 31 December 2026.
Balancing work and family needs remains a challenge for young scientists. The need for childcare -- and its cost -- makes it difficult, especially for young female scientists and single parents, to participate in scientific conferences, workshops and other activities. This can have a negative impact on educational and networking opportunities and eventually on the scientific career progression on very promising scientists who have to make a difficult choice between their parental obligations and professional development.
The ICTP childcare grant is for visiting scientists who will be at the Centre for up to 90 days and who are traveling with children under the age of 18.
