The video series “Science is Our Common Language” focusses on the experience of current and former ICTP Associates to highlight the impact that the programme has had on their lives and careers. It was launched in 2024, to mark the programme’s 60th anniversary, which coincided with that of our institute: the ICTP Associates Programme was the first programme launched by ICTP founder Abdus Salam himself at the very inception of the Centre. The programme allows researchers from developing countries to build and maintain connections with other researchers, both at ICTP and elsewhere, by giving them the opportunity to regularly spend time at the Centre during their associateship.
This month we publish the testimony of ICTP-Arab Fund Associate Nada Abbas Ahmed, a medical physicist from Sudan and an assistant professor at Taibah University, in Saudi Arabia. She visited ICTP as an Associate for the first time during her doctoral studies, which she carried out in Sudan. Since then, she has visited ICTP many times – first as a Junior Associate, then as a Regular Associate, and since 2024 as an Arab Fund Associate. Thanks to the support of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, in 2025 Abbas Ahmed was able to bring Nada Alrehima Alana Hassan, a PhD student at the Sudan Atomic Energy Commission Radiation & Nuclear Safety Institute in Khartoum. During their time at ICTP their collaboration benefitted from uninterrupted research time and fruitful discussions.
