Daniel Akyeampong, one of ICTP’s first Associates, has died in his home country of Ghana at the age of 76.
Akyeampong, a mathematician, was a professor at the University of Accra and a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences. He studied at the University of London and Imperial College London, where he was mentored and supervised by Abdus Salam. He had a long association with ICTP, starting with the Centre's opening in 1964, when he was named as one of ICTP's first associates, and maintained connections with ICTP for the rest of his life.
