When Subir Sachdev had to choose between a career as a particle
physicist or a condensed matter physicist, he selected the latter
because he wanted to do something that was connected to quantum
physics and had experimental relevance.
Since then, Sachdev worked extensively on quantum phase
transitions and their application to superconductors and published
a book on the topic. His research has also looked at how string
theory can be used to explain some problems in condensed
matter.
We sat down to interview Sachdev, and he spoke about his career,
his research interests and touched upon how ICTP helps build
research careers.
