Low-cost, wireless ICT in Developing Countries

ICTP school and workshop promote best-practice solutions

ICTP's school on "wireless ICT low-cost solutions in developing countries: best practices" runs from 16 February to 6 March. It introduces participants from developing countries to innovative solutions in the design and implementation of low-cost wireless local area networks and long-distance links (WiFi and WiMAX) not only for interconnecting computers, but also for data, audio, and video communications. Part of the school time is devoted to hands-on sessions on the installation and measurement of wireless networks.

Immediately following the school, the 2nd Awareness Workshop on Relevance of Low Cost Wireless ICT Solutions for Development will bring together school participants with international experts and policy makers from developing countries to discuss the most advanced and cost-effective low-cost, wireless technologies available to help the educational, scientific, social and economic development of least developed countries.

The school and workshop are co-sponsored by ICTP, the International Telecommunications Union, and the Central European Initiative.
