Marco Gilli was born in Turin in 1965 and has been Chair of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo since 16 April 2024; between 2019 and 2024 he was Scientific Attaché (Science & Technology Counselor) at the Italian Embassy in the USA.

In 1990 he was awarded the Andreoni Prize, presented by the Association of Engineers and Architects of the Polytechnic of Turin to the best Graduate in Electronic Engineering. He subsequently worked as a Researcher in the Electrical Engineering sector at the Polytechnic of Turin, becoming Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering in 1998.

Currently Gilli is Full Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University’s First Faculty of Engineering. From May 2002 and September 2003, he took on the role of Assistant Dean and subsequently Deputy Dean in 2005, a post he held until September 2005, when he was appointed Assistant Deputy Rector, a career on the rise which led him, in 2012, as Rector of the Polytechnic of Turin.

In 2017, the current Chair of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo was also Scientific Director of the “G7 – SMEs and Digital Transformation” session of the “Multistakeholder Conference” that preceded the G7 ministerial “ICT & Industry” meeting.
