Postdoc Positions at ICTP

ICTP's Quantitative Life Sciences (QLS) section seeks applications for postdoctoral positions starting Fall 2018 from outstanding young scientists of any nationality with a strong research record. ICTP is a UNESCO Category 1 research institute supporting science and education in the developing world. ICTP promotes worldwide initiatives for the career development of women in science.

The QLS section provides a unique international research environment for postdoctoral fellows with about 15 group members (faculty, postdocs, graduate students and visitors), an intense programme of workshops and conferences, close collaborations with local scientific institutions (SISSA, ICGEB, Univ. Trieste) and internationally renowned research institutions (UCSD, NTNU, MPIPKS, Aalto Univ.). Postdoctoral fellows are also encouraged, and supported, to participate in activities in developing countries in order to promote the mission of the ICTP.

Candidates should have a background in physics, quantitative biology and/or related disciplines, and be able to carry out active, independent and multidisciplinary research in one or more of the following areas:

  • Statistical physics: 
stochastic thermodynamics; active matter; machine learning; stochastic processes for physics or finance.
  • Quantitative biology: 
mesoscopic physics in biology; chemical reaction networks; neuroscience; information theory of biological systems; decision-making.

Candidates with expertise in theory-experiment collaborations are especially encouraged to apply.

The take-home monthly salary will be in the range of 1,860 - 2,400 EUR (depending on seniority). Benefits include health insurance, a pension contribution, and special allowances for family members. Appointments will be made for two years, with the possibility of renewal for one more year.
