Abstract. I will discuss the Voronoi volume function (VVF) - the distribution of cell volumes in the Voronoi tessellation of any sample of cosmological tracers such as galaxies or dark haloes. Using N-body simulations and analytical arguments, I will show that the VVF is sensitive to a variety of physical properties of the sample (mass, large-scale environment, kinematics of substructure, redshift evolution, etc.), which themselves respond to primordial variables such as the shape of the initial matter power spectrum and the linear growth of structure. This makes the VVF an easily measureable and hitherto unexplored probe of both cosmology and galaxy evolution. I will present some preliminary comparisons between the VVF of galaxies observed in the GAMA survey and that of abundance-matched simulated haloes, and also outline possible questions that can be addressed through accurate modelling of the VVF.

Abstract. Analytical models of the abundance of Dark Matter haloes usually focus on their mean initial overdensity as the parameter that determines where and when virialized regions form. This assumption however leads to a number of inconsistencies and divergencies in the calculation. We argue that a more suitable quantity for this purpose is the initial energy of the protohalo patch. We show how this dynamically motivated choice allows to connect the non-linear evolution of the density field with perturbation theory. We then explore the generation of velocity dispersion in the multistream regime, numerically and by means of a simple analytical model based on spherical collapse. We show how the initial mean energy is crucial to describe the virialization process and to predict the final density profile.

Abstract. The standard model of cosmology, known as LCDM, has a great success in interpretation of the cosmological observations from cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation to the large scale structure (LSS) observation. However, there are a couple of tensions between the observations and theory. One category of these challenges is in the galactic scale known as "core-cusp", "missing satellite" and "too big too fail" problems. On the other hand, the measurement of the Hubble parameter from CMB and nearby supernovae are in tension. In this talk, I will present the idea of how the non-linear structure formation and the characteristics of the cosmic web can be used to study these tensions and their probable solutions in more detail. Accordingly, I will introduce the non-Markov version of the excursion set theory as an analytical approach to study the non-linear structures, and then I will show how the idea of the modified initial condition can address the galactic scale challenges of the LCDM. In the next part of the talk I will show, how the Hubble parameter tension can be related to the structure formation history and the merger rate of dark matter halos, which can be considered as a complementary observation to study the tension and its observational consequences in LSS.

Abstract. Multiple astrophysical probes of the cosmic star formation history yield widely different inferences of this rate at redshifts z > 1. While all probes seem to indicate a period of peak star formation known as the cosmic noon between 1.5 < z < 3, the detailed inferences from these probes are in disagreement. In particular, the magnitude of the peak star formation rate density indicated by H-alpha data is higher by a factor of ~ 4 compared to the magnitude of the peak indicated by UV/IR data. We will explore the potential of future measurements of the diffuse supernova neutrino background at the Hyper-Kamiokande (HK) experiment to resolve the discrepancy and help pin down the magnitude of the peak cosmic star formation rate.

Abstract. Many-body problems have seen a remarkable resurgence in recent years. In part, this is because the increasing overlap between high energy particle physics and theoretical condensed matter. The discovery of the SYK model and the avalanche of work that followed is testament to this state of affairs. Network theory (or graph theory) offers a powerful toolkit to study some of these systems. Among these, quantum small-worlds are quantum many-body systems that interpolate between completely ordered (nearest-neighbour, next-to-nearest-neighbour etc.) and completely random interactions. As such, they furnish a novel new laboratory to study quantum systems transitioning between regular and chaotic behaviour. In this talk, I will introduce these ideas and illustrate them in the context of the Heisenberg and Ising models, showing how to inject a small number of long-range interactions into the spin chain and study its ability to scramble quantum information using two primary devices: the out-of-time-order correlator (OTOC) and the spectral form factor (SFF). As an interesting, and perhaps timely, aside I will describe how these ideas can be related to models of viral spreading in real-world systems.

Abstract. In this talk, I will discuss constraints on the interaction of the dark matter (DM) with the neutrinos, assuming that the DM does not couple with other standard model particles. The focus of this talk is to put some bounds on the interaction from the collider perspective, while the bounds from neutrino telescopes are also discussed for comparison. In the context of simplified models, I will show that the collider searches can be competitive with the bounds from neutrino telescopes for some parts of parameter space. Moreover I will also present the reach of future colliders in constraining DM-neutrino interaction.

Abstract. The recent observations of gravitational waves emitted by coalescences of binary compact objects like black holes and neutron stars marked the dawning of gravitational wave astronomy as a new science. Beyond the immediate and tremendous impact in Astrophysics and Cosmology, the consequences that the opening of this new observational window has on fundamental physics will be highlighted. In particular field theory methods, historically developed within the framework of quantum amplitude computations applied to particle physics, turned out to be useful to analytically model the dynamics of binary system, and they will be even more important to maximize the physics output of detections in the near future when more accurate observations of gravitational waves will be available.

Abstract. I will explore the idea that certain theories of gravity in Anti-de Sitter space are dual to an average over an ensemble of quantum theories, rather than to a specific quantum theory. I will describe an average over Narain’s family of two-dimensional conformal field theories which describe free bosons on a torus, and compute the partition function using the Siegel-Weil formula. The result takes the form of a sum over geometries as one would expect in a theory of gravity. But the gravitational theory looks more like a Chern-Simons theory than like Einstein gravity.

Abstract. A space-based laser interferometer, pioneered by NASA's LISA concept and now a ESA cornerstone mission, will enable direct detection of gravitational waves at lower frequencies than LIGO, without being limited by seismic noise. Perhaps the most intriguing source for LISA is the stochastic gravitational wave background produced by turbulent plasma motions in an early-universe, particularly at the electroweak energy scale. In this talk I will discuss the stochastic gravitational wave background generated from early-universe turbulence, including the effects of possible parity violation which will result in the non-zero circular polarization. Turbulent sources possibly present at the electroweak energy scales produce gravitational waves with a characteristic frequency of a millihertz, squarely in LISA's sensitivity window. I will present our recent results (in collaboration with Axel Brandenburg, Arthur Kosowsky, Sayan Mandal and Alberto Roper Pol) of direct numerical simulations to compute the net circular polarization of gravitational waves from helical (chiral) turbulent sources in the early universe for a variety of initial conditions. I will discuss the resulting gravitational wave signal assuming different turbulence genesis such as magnetically or kinetically dominant cases. Under realistic physical conditions in the early universe we have computed numerically for the first time the total polarization degree of the gravitational waves and its spectral distribution. Our major finding consists of the spectral polarization degree that strongly depends on the initial conditions. The peak of the spectral polarization degree occurs (in the wavenumber space) at twice the typical wavenumber of the source, as expected, and for the fully helical decaying turbulence, reaches its maximum (100\%) only at the peak. In addition, we have determined the temporal evolution of the turbulent sources as well as the resulting gravitational waves, showing that the dominant contribution to the spectral energy density happens shortly after the source activation and through prolonged (slow decay) turbulence, the increase of the gravitational wave amplitude at low frequencies can be achieved. Finally, I will address the detection prospects through LISA for the gravitational wave signal and its net polarization.

Abstract. In this talk, I will first review some of the recent progress on computing holographic correlators using analytic bootstrap techniques combined with supersymmetric localization, focusing on the case of the N = 4 super-Yang-Mills theory. From taking a certain flat space limit of the holographic correlators, one can obtain scattering amplitudes of gravitons in string theory, and one can then reproduce some of the known results for these scattering amplitudes. In particular, from instanton effects in the N=4 SYM theory, I will explain how to reproduce the non-holomorphic Eisenstein series known to appear in type IIB string theory scattering amplitudes, and I will explain how to derive many other modular invariants appearing in correlation functions of the N=4 SYM theory.

Abstract. A salient feature of black holes near extremality is the appearance of an AdS$_2$ throat in their near-horizon geometry. Depending on the underlying theory, these AdS$_2$ throats may be unstable to fragmentation, wherein a single throat is instead replaced by a tree-like structure of branched AdS$_2$ throats. For Einstein-Maxwell theory, the underlying reason behind this instability is the existence of multi-centered configuration in the moduli space of black hole solutions at fixed total charge. Given the success of the Schwarzian/SYK paradigm for understanding a single AdS$_2$ it is time to revisit the fragmentation story. To build up intuition, I will present a model, studied in the statistical mechanics literature, that shares many features with SYK, including exact solvability at large-N and an emergent conformal symmetry that gets weakly broken in the UV. The novel feature of this model is the appearance of a spin glass phase at O(1) temperatures, which I will try to relate to the fragmentation story.

Abstract. The observation of astrophysical neutrinos by IceCube opened a new window on our Universe and at the same time confronted us with an important, and yet unanswered, question: where do these neutrinos come from? In this talk I discuss a multi-messenger approach to answer this question, focusing on the neutrino/gamma-ray connection. It will be shown that, using the EGB data already collected by Fermi-LAT, stringent constraints on the source(s) properties, such as the opacity and redshift distribution, can be derived. The challenges in reconciling the EGB and IceCube data will be discussed.

Abstract. In this talk the Assisted Annihilation framework that generates thermal sub-GeV dark matter through a novel annihilation between pairs of dark matter and standard-model-like states, called the "assister" will be presented. The feasibility of such non-standard annihilation topology to reproduce the observed relic density of dark matter while remaining in consonance with cosmological bounds will be discussed in a model independent way. A simple multipartite scalar extension of the Standard Model where Assisted Annihilation can dominantly drive the thermal freeze out of dark matter in certain regions of the parameter space will be sketched. It is demonstrated that for photophilic assisters these models may be probed by indirect detection and fixed target experiments.
