Physics Without Frontiers

Worldwide physics outreach

Physics Without Frontiers has partnered with the Department of Physical Science, Sherubtse College, Royal University of Bhutan, and the Physics Department at the University of Sussex to provide a course in advanced data analysis in particle physics for undergraduate students in Bhutan.

A course in collider physics using ATLAS Open Data was taught online from August - November 2021 by researchers at the ATLAS experiment at CERN, from the University of Sussex, UK.

Physics students were trained in particle physics and advanced data analysis using proton-proton collision data from the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Skills learnt included python programming, analysis techniques, cut optimisation, and Machine Learning, allowing students to discover and reconstruct the Higgs boson, and search for Dark Matter. The course culminatwd with a poster session where students showcased their analysis to other students and faculty at the university.
