ICTP’s High Energy, Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics (HECAP) section has announced a vacancy for an Associate Research Officer. The application deadline is 8 November 2017.

Under the direct supervision of the head of HECAP, the incumbent will initiate and undertake world-class research in the field of high energy and astroparticle physics and will assist the section head in the planning and implementation of its scientific activities and in the fulfillment of the Centre's mission. Essential responsibilities include:

  • Undertake front-line research in the fields of High Energy Physics and Astroparticle Physics broadly defined. This includes both phenomenological approaches to accelerator and/or non-accelerator probes of physics beyond the Standard Model, dark matter and astroparticle physics, and theoretical studies on open problems in particle physics.
  • Organize seminars, schools, workshops, conferences and topical meetings, and selection of participants.
  • Review the applications for postdoctoral work and Associateships, Postgraduate Diploma courses, and short-term and long-term visits.
  • Teach, as required, in ICTP's Postgraduate Diploma Programme in High Energy Physics, and collaborate, as appropriate, with the Associates as well as other visitors to the Centre, especially those from developing countries.
  • Perform additional activities that may be required to ensure the success of the Section's work.

Required qualifications include a PhD in physics or related areas, at least two years of relevant professional experience, and a documented record of excellence in research.
