Education:

Graduated in Physics at the University of Trieste in 1972 with full marks and honour.

Research interests:

Multiple scattering and multichannel processes in high energy hadronic collisions. Perturbative calculations in quantum cromodynamics. Hadron-induced intermediate-energy reactions and scattering. Inelastic scattering with many-particle final states. Production of jets and of heavy quarks in hadron-inducted high- and super-high-energy interactions of hadrons with nuclei and in relativistic heavy ion collisions. Deep inelastic electron-nucleus scattering.

Biography:

Research Associate of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), Theoretical Group of the University of Trieste (1975-on).
Associate member of the European Centre for Theoretical Studies in Nuclear Physics and Related Areas (ECT*) of Trento.
Member of the Italian Physical Society.
Associate Professor of Nuclear and Sub-Nuclear Physics (1983-2000) at the University of Trieste.
Full Professor of Nuclear and Sub-Nuclear Physics (2000-on) at the University of Trieste (teaching activities: Mathematical Methods of Physics, Physics, Nuclear Physics).
Chairman of the Council of Physics Studies of the University of Trieste (2002-2005).
Secretary of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics C13 Commission on Physics for Development (2002-2008).
Consultant of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy (1997-on) where he collaborated with the Associates and Federation Arrangements Programmes, with the Sandwich Training Educational Programme and with the Training and Research in Italian Laboratories Programme.

Research collaborations:

The research activity was done in collaboration with physicists at the University of Trieste and with various groups from several different institutes in many different countries. In particular with theorists of the Dipartimento di Fisica, Universita di Perugia and INFN, Sezione di Perugia; of the Department of High Energies and Elementary Particles, St. Petersburg University; of the Department of Physics, Pennsylvania State University; of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, University of Ljubljana.
A collaboration with the Compact Muon Solenoid Experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider was recently started to study the physics of the minimum bias and of the underlying event.

Refereeing activities:

Referee of Physical Review D, Physical Review Letters, Journal of Physics G: Nuclear and Particle Physics, European Physics Journal C, Physics Letters B, Journal of High Energy Physics.

Organization of Workshops and Conferences:

Organizer of various International Workshops and Conferences in High Energy Hadronic and Nuclear Physics.

Publications:

Author or co-author of more than one hundred papers in International Journals and in the proceedings of International Conferences.
