Department of Theoretical Physics (DFT), University of Trieste

Department of Theoretical Physics

Within the Miramare Campus, the different areas of research are carried out by scientists working in collaboration with the Department of Theoretical Physics of the University of Trieste.

Thanks to ICTP, scientists at DFT can interact with those from developing countries. Specific programs are conducted in collaboration with the other institutes present on Campus.

Department of Theoretical Physics research activities include:

  • Production of light particles in very strong magnetic fields.
  • High energy hadronic and nuclear reactions.
  • Electroweak Interactions of Elementary particles: Weak decays and CP-symmetry violation and Physics at electron-positron high energy colliders.
  • Theory of the Electronic Properties of Solids.
  • Surface Physics and holography
  • Simulation and Theory of Many-Body Systems: Quantum many-body, Theory and simulations of classical liquids, disordered systems and clusters.
  • Relativistic extended objects and their gravitational and gauge interactions.
  • Functional methods in classical and quantum mechanics.
  • Quantum groups and infinite-dimensional algebras.
  • Foundations of Quantum Mechanics and quantum computing.
  • Quantum Mechanics and Elementary Particle Phenomenology.
