Ramanujan Prize Winner Announced

ICTP announces that the 2016 Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians from Developing Countries has been awarded to Chenyang Xu of Beijing International Center of Mathematical Research in China. The prize is awarded jointly by ICTP, the Department of Science and Technology (DST, Government of India), and the International Mathematical Union (IMU).

Xu was cited for his outstanding works in algebraic geometry, notably in the area of birational geometry, including works both on log canonical pairs and on Q-Fano varieties, and on the topology of singularities and their dual complexes. The prize also recognizes Xu's contribution to the strengthening of algebraic geometry in China. An award ceremony will be held at ICTP in November.

The full citation of the award is here.

The Ramanujan Prize is awarded annually to a researcher from a developing country who is less than 45 years of age on 31 December of the year of the award, and who has conducted outstanding research in a developing country. Researchers working in any branch of the mathematical sciences are eligible.
