ICTP presents cutting-edge science to Trieste high school students
Next-Generation Physicists

More than 130 students from Trieste's Liceo Scientifico Galilei and the Trieste International School learned about the wonders of the universe during a morning of presentations by ICTP scientists at its campus in Miramare.

From "L'alba dell'universo" (the dawn of the universe) to "La matematica di ogni giorno" (mathematics in everyday life), students heard about the Big Bang, the importance of mathematics in coding and encrypting information, and the fascinating particle physics discoveries being made at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. Other presentations included a display of 3D printing technology, a tutorial on using library resources for research, and a showing of the ICTP documentary "From Theory to Reality" by Trieste filmmaker Nicole Leghissa.

The visit highlights ongoing outreach efforts by ICTP to Trieste schools. Most recently, in October 2014, students were invited to attend the Centre's 50th Anniversary celebration, where Nobel Laureates such as Carlo Rubbia and David Gross spoke.
