Stage set for ICTP's 50th Anniversary Celebrations

The countdown to ICTP's 50th Anniversary celebrations has begun. Local and international dignitaries and some of the greatest minds in physics and mathematics will take part in the celebrations that will be held at ICTP from 6 to 9 October 2014.

Keynote speakers on the first day include Nobel laureates David Gross and Carlo Rubbia. Among the dignitaries who will address the audience are Paul Kagame, the President of Rwanda, where ICTP will be opening a regional centre, Irina Bokova, the Director General of UNESCO and Yukiya Amano, Director General of IAEA. Rolf-Dieter Heuer, Director General of CERN, Hamadoun Touré, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, and Michel Jarraud, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization will also be present at the inauguration.

The anniversary programme also includes scientific lectures by former Dirac medallists, the Ramanujan Prize ceremony, and sessions on women in science.
